Children's Foot + Leg Problems

Children’s foot + leg problems

At Sole Wellness Podiatry, we provide specialised care for children’s foot and leg health, addressing issues that can affect growth, development, mobility, sense of confidence and participation.

Early assessment and treatment are important to prevent discomfort, correct abnormal movement patterns, and support healthy development.

How we assess + treat

Our approach combines thorough assessment with evidence-based treatments tailored for children. We evaluate:

  • Medical conditions and medication history

  • Pregnancy and birth history (from in utero through to current age)

  • Milestone and development history

  • Foot, leg and ankle structure

  • Gait and walking patterns

  • Muscle strength and flexibility

  • Nerve and reflex assessments

  • Shoe and orthotic needs

  • Skin and nail integrity

Treatment may include a combination of:

  • Footwear advice and modifications

  • Wedging or orthotics (custom or prefabricated)

  • Exercise and stretching programs

  • Adjunct therapies, such as manual therapy and taping

  • Treatment plans for skin conditions suited to children

  • Education for parents or caregivers on ongoing care

Common conditions we treat

Children’s feet and legs can experience a variety of issues, including:

  • Flat feet or high arches

  • Toe walking or in-toeing / out-toeing

  • Growing pains in the legs or feet

  • Muscle tightness or weakness affecting gait

  • Conditions affecting posture or alignment
