Taping (Rigid + Kinesio Tape)
Taping at Sole Wellness Podiatry
Taping is a versatile and evidence-based treatment used to support muscles, joints, and soft tissues in the legs and feet.
At Sole Wellness Podiatry, we use both rigid tape and kinesio tape (RockTape) as part of a broader treatment plan to reduce pain, support healing, and improve movement. Taping may also be used by podiatrists as a tool to guide orthotic prescription and other longer term offloading strategies.
Taping is often used alongside other therapies such as exercise rehabilitation, orthotics, dry needling, shockwave therapy, and tool-assisted massage to achieve optimal results.

How taping works
Rigid tape provides firm support to injured or unstable areas, limiting harmful movement and protecting tissues while they heal. It is often used for acute injuries, tendon or ligament support, and joint stability.

Kinesi tape is an elastic tape applied to the skin over muscles or joints. It works by:
-
Lifting the skin slightly to improve circulation and lymphatic flow
-
Reducing pain and muscle tension
-
Facilitating or inhibiting muscle activation depending on treatment goals
-
Supporting joint alignment while allowing movement

Both types of taping aim to improve function, reduce pain, and enhance the effectiveness of other rehabilitation treatments.

What taping is used for?
Taping is particularly useful for conditions affecting the legs and feet, including:
-
Plantar heel pain / plantar fasciitis
-
Achilles tendonitis or tightness
-
Ankle sprains or instability
-
Shin splints (medial tibial stress syndrome)
-
Muscle strains in the calves, tibialis, or peroneals
-
Forefoot pain related to overuse or biomechanical overload
-
Bunions
-
Plantar plate tears
